Textual Analysis of Movie Posters.

Zombieland."

Zombieland uses codes to very clearly indicate its setting to the audience this because in the background of the poster, amusement park rides like a rollercoaster and a Ferris wheel are present this indicates the setting of the film is either at a fair or amusement park. The particular amusement park its based at, is unknown because the rides are not unique, there can be found at many amusement parks across the world.

In the background there are many other features for instance zombies which is stereotypically people which look like there dead, anxious and covered in blood and also walk and want to eat people. There is a large group of zombies in the background suggesting that the plot of the movie is based around a zombie apocalypse. The zombies and the amusement park in the background, allow the audience to identify the genre of the film, which is horror and comedy because a connotation of zombie is evil and the connotation of a amusement park is fun.

A house on fire and mud (which appears to have been thrown into the air) also present in the background suggests that the apocalypse has caused destruction.

The title "Zombieland" is in a style which makes its appearance appear similar to a amusement park ride. The title appears to have blood smeared across it, suggesting that something bad has happened for instance murder. In addition the title bends in a circular appearance suggesting the apocalypse is global.

The four characters all wear casual clothing suggest that the four main characters are normal people, but the character which is played by Woody Harrison, wears a cowboy hat which stereotypically suggests that he has a hobby towards hunting.

All the characters have different weapons suggesting that the movie has violence and death involved.  The chainsaw and shovel, held by characters played by Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, does suggest that its not a hunting game as its the wrong type of weapon to use, this suggests that the weapons are used for something else.  In addition the chainsaw has blood on it, implying the genre of the movie which is action and horror

The face expressions of the characters suggests that there looking for a fight, which indicates that they are anxious as well as serious. There prepared to fight the zombies off! Woody Harrison is at the front of all the characters suggesting that he is the leader.

The poster uses a non natural cloud effect to suggests bad things are or will be happening. It additionally supports the idea of an abstract, non realistic setting.

"The LEGO Movie"
The Lego Movie clearly summarises the plot of the movie in the main line "the story of a nobody who saved everybody" above the title. It makes the audience more interested and hooked because it doesn't reveal who the hero or villain is, as well doesn't reveal how they "saved everybody".

All the characters of the movie appear to be running towards the audience and away from something.
The character in the centre "Emmet" appears to be the only one that has scared facial features which supports the idea that there running away from something but the other characters like "Batman" and "Wyldstyle" have anxious and serious facial expressions which make them appear that there running towards something because they seek a fight, they don't appear like there running away.

Some of the characters hold weapons for instance a bat shaped throwing knife, swords and a lasso. The connotation of weapons is violence and murder, suggesting that they will be present in the movie. Indicating to the audience that its a action genre movie.

The movie poster clearly indicates that the villain is the character (president business) with flames coming out of his horns and is wearing a lot of red. The connotation of red is danger, murder (blood) and love, supporting the idea that he is a villain. The facial features suggest that his plans don't work out because he looks anxious. The flames from his horns and in the background suggesting to audience that the villain wants to cause destruction.  The fire also indicates that things are getting out of control similar to what fire does. Emmet does not have a appearance of a stereotypical hero like the other characters like Batman. He looks like a stereotypical builder.

The setting of the movie is in a abstract, non realistic world, this is clearly suggested by the background and people made of LEGO. It appears to be set in a stereotypical city made up of skyscrapers. This implies that its a modern, present timed movie. The background at the top of the poster is mostly all the colour blue and fades to black as it goes downwards on the poster. The connotations of blue is calm and the connotations of black is destruction, emptiness and death, conjuring up the idea that at the start of the story, it was calm and slowly turns bad resulting in destruction and death.

In the background a police car and helicopter seems to be chasing after the main characters suggesting that they have done something bad making it seem that they cause the destruction.

The poster has a billing block stating the actors, but suggests that there not that important because its not really legible towards the audience. The poster also presents the different production companies that helped construct the movie it persuades more people to watch the movie because people might like curtain production companies.

"Assembling February 7" informs the audience more about the movie making them more interested. The text is coloured in red to make it contrast with the black making it more legible and noticeable for the audience. The title is ironic because it says "The LEGO Movie" and is made of LEGO.

"FURY"

Firstly, the text "War Never Ends Quietly" conforms that the movie is set in a time of a war and to be more specific World War II because in the poster they seem to be operating a Sherman tank, which was used during this war. Additionally the tank seems to be more advanced additionally conforming that its set in World War II, not

World War I because there tanks were more basic and less used. The text conforms that the plot of the movie is based around the tank which seems to be called "Fury" because the connotation of a tank is noisy and destruction. The text almost suggests that this tank caused the war to end.

The background is all mostly dull and dark colours such as black and faded green, this is because it makes the title "Fury which is coloured bright yellow, contrast there for makes the eye focus on it more, this is also achieved by the title being the largest sized text on the poster.

The title "fury appears to be smeared and dirty, this suggests that the movie might contain rude language, and that the place its set (World War II) is not a nice environment. Above the title "Fury", the name Brad Pitt is presented in large, bold text suggesting that the actor which plays Don "Wardaddy" Collier is important. Brad Pitt as well known actor because he has been a part of many great and successful movies this would persuade others to watch this movie.

The characters are wearing dirty, worn jackets almost makes them appear more like a engineer then a soldier. The character nearest to the camera stands up tall, represents he is the commander of this small crew of tank operators. This is also conformed by the badge on his jacket sleeve which represents that he is important as the other character do not have this badge. The characters are American because there wearing a American soldier uniform as well are standing in front of American tank, this suggests that there fighting against Nazi Germany. "Fury" is set in a foreign country perhaps in Germany, because the war was against Nazi Germany.
The poster has a billing block, but coloured grey on a black coloured part of the background, which makes barely legible as well as making it less noticeable for the audience and implies all the actors, expect Brad Pitt are not important. The poster has a release date coloured white on the same black coloured part of the poster, but the white contrasts with the black making it more noticeable.
